JALS at JDRF’s One Walk
On Sunday, September 25th, the Just a Little Suga’ team participated in the JDRF One Walk at Foley Square. One Walk utilizes financial contributions to fund research and life-saving innovations so that one day we’ll realize a world without Type 1 diabetes.
As a Type 1 diabetic, my participation in this walk signified a renewed commitment to my health. It was also a celebration of my ten-year diaversary. No, I was NOT celebrating diabetes. However, I was celebrating the effort, energy and optimism that have sustained me thus far. I was celebrating life, my life, and the fact that I haven’t been wiped out by hypoglycemia or ketoacidosis. I was celebrating the choice of showing up each day and refusing to allow management woes to deter me. I was celebrating the choice of living well even with Type 1 diabetes.
Thank you to those friends and family who stood in agreement with me by contributing to my fundraising campaign and/or walking with the Just a Little Suga’ Team. Not only did you help me surpass my financial goal, but you also reminded me of how privileged I am to be surrounded by such love and support.
Thank you again for your consideration and your efforts in helping me turn type one into type none.
